Friday, picked up my race bib and shirt. Then panicked Sunday night because I forgot to set anything up before bedtime. Thank goodness that the Musician reminded me.
Up and out of bed early. PowerBroker and BrokerSon picked me up at 0530. Thank God for coffee in hand. I had also told a fellow INKnBURNer that we would be there. The brand brings people together. I had never met her, but it was nice to look for a familiar face and familiar outfit. Val is visiting Austin from Michigan and posted on a fan page asking for suggestiins for racea while she was in town. She took my advice for this run. It was supposed to be "cool" for Texas ... in the 70s, so I figured I could wear my new Chameleon capris and racerback. When we arrived, I regretted my choice in clothing. HUMID!!! Should have gone with shorts. After a little meandering and mingling, and on the way to the race start (about a quarter mile from parking), we ran into my bike buddy Joe. And in the porta-pottie line, we ran into Valerie. Had to get the obligatory selfie. It was nice seeing folks, but not much chit-chat. National anthem. Let the runners go ahead. And, we are off ... to a leisurely walk.
What can I say? 5 miles. Great conversation. 4 water stops. Lots of cheering from people who live in the neighborhoods. Amazing volunteers cheering us on. PowerBroker laughed because we really didn't even break a sweat. I admit it, the course looks different walking than running, but it's the same course I did the past 2 years. Walking, the hills seemed longer ... or I had just blocked them from my memory. It's a really beautiful area with amazing houses and beautiful scenery.
Cross the finish line and keep on strolling to the finisher area. pick up our wine glass. Get some food. I didn't stand in line for wine this year. PowerBroker isn't drinking these days and I wasn't in the mood for wine at 0930.
I did get mesmerized by the butterflies on the beautiful flowers by the vines, though. They were fluttering away.
Couple of pictures clinking our finisher wine glasses. Celebrated that we didn't whine the whole way.... or at all for that matter.
Leaping because ... well, that's what I do after a race, right? Especially when wearing something this freaking awesome. |
Oh, the humiliation of the pace ... it's a slow one for me. But, I was out there for the company |
