Victoria Falls Safari Lodge--A night of respite (September 18)

LUXURY!!! I felt like I needed it. Victoria Falls Safari Lodge had lovely views, and we were advised to keep the screen from the balcony closed as the monkeys and baboons had a tendency to enter rooms and rifle through everything.

I showered ... twice before going for a splash in the pool and enjoying a cold frosty fruity beverage.

The lodge and our room overlooked a watering hole and we watched as Impala, Warthogs, Bush Buck, Elephants, and lots of birds came to the hole.

Wandering through the lodge we encountered, up close and personal, warthogs and bush buck. The warthogs are so funny, but not when they kind of lunge your direction. I don't think they were heading to me, but I was close enough that if I had a broom, I could have touched them. I could see the hairs on their heads and back, in detail. So. Very. Cool.

We had dinner at the Boma, which means gathering place. It was buffet style. We were seated at our table and they had some fermented drink for us to sample. Blech!!! Our guides had spoken to the chef and we were given a personal tour of the buffet to point out our vegan options. Lots of it.

The chef also prepared, special for us, an amazing vegetable skewer. So beautiful. So much food.
It wasn't vegan, but I did have to try it to say I have done it. I ate a mopani worm. Kind of chewy and the inside felt like sand and tasted like liver. I don't think I have to do it again. And, I was not interested in scooping a spoonful onto my plate.

We had great entertainment.
As we departed, we thought about walking back to the main lodge. But, what were those noises? We chose the shuttle bus. I slept so soundly that night. The room was like a nice hotel room, the 4-poster bed had mosquito netting which had been brought down for the night. They did provide luxury sunscreen and luxury mosquito repellent creams in the rooms. And, a soft bed felt amazing!!!

The next morning, we went to the lounge area overlooking the watering hole and enjoyed our breakfast watching elephants enjoying their morning.

And, then we loaded up our wet bags and headed to our next adventure.
