StitchFix April 2015 #11

I don't get StitchFix every month because my closet is getting full of beautiful things.StitchFix is a styling service. You set up your profile on-line and you can set it up to receive a "fix" monthly, or like me ... whenever the mood strikes. For each fix, I pay a $20 styling fee and I receive 5 items to try on at home. I can keep or return whatever I want and shipping is free both ways. If I keep everything, it's a 25% discount off the total. And, yes, the styling fee is applied towards what I keep. The more fixes I've done, the better my results. I left a note for my stylist that I was going to my 30-year high-school reunion in Washington DC and it was also cherry blossom festival. I was leaving on April 9 and my Fix was supposed to arrive on April 7. I must admit, I was disappointed to receive shipping information ON APRIL 7. So ... it didn't ship until after my account said is was supposed to arrive and it wasn't here in time for my trip. Jocelyn had hit a home run with my last fix, so I specifically asked for her this time. I appreciate the personal note that showed she listened and she remembered what she sent last time. By the way ... I still love the bangle and did wear it during reunion weekend.

I tried on the Brixon Ivy Azurre Lace Overlay Blouse first. 

When The Musician saw this blouse, the first thing he said was "That looks like a Grandma ..." He was right. It was big and boxy and not flattering. It actually looks better on the hanger that it did on me. I wold never be happy wearing this so I returned it. $68

The next thing I tried was the Sugarlips Celise Pencil Skirt.

While I like the color, I admit, I wasn't wow'ed by the skirt. First, I find pencil skirts hard to move in if I don't have a split in the back. I move a lot and have to move fast. And I'm up and down a lot, too, so this wouldn't be comfortable for work. Also ... I found the sheer panel above the knee just a little weird. I returned this too. $44.

Next was the Daniel Rainn Triton Spaghetti Strap Silk Blouse

I have some angst here. It's a really pretty, and dainty little blouse that will be great in the hot summer months and layered under a suit. But, I am having trouble with silk these days. I recently learned how they get silk from the worms and how the worms fight it. So ... that being said, I kept the blouse, but I'm going to update my profile so that I don't get silk in the future. $74

I really liked the dresses in my last fix and was pleased to have another dress I really like in this fix. Donna Morgan Raj Pleated Dress. It's really really cute. I love the way the white pops out when I move. It has a really nice cut and flare. It's a little low scoop in back, but not too racy. I wore it to work and had tons of compliments. It looks like a basic black dress, but has amazing flare. Yes, you can tell I kept it since I wore it to work. $78

Interesting this month, no accessory item. Not a complaint, just an observation. My fifth item was Margaret M Emer High Waisted Tall Trouser. 

 I liked these pants. They were a stretchy, fitted, pull-on trouser. Nice basic black. Not as high-waisted as I thought based on the description. But, I have a LOT of basic black pants and some that look almost like this. For the price point, of $98, I just couldn't justify keeping it since it's not very different than a lot of my wardrobe.

I was sad that I wasn't as impressed this time with my fix. There, I said it. If I had kept everything, I would have paid $265.50. This accounts for the $20 styling fee and 25% discount. But, I sent back 3 items. I was sad because my last few fixes have been spot-on and this one was more of a "miss." Well, it won't stop me from trying another one. :)

I don't get StitchFix every month because my closet is getting full of beautiful things. But, I was in a bit of a shopping frenzy recently and was disappointed with another clothing subscription, so I went for it.

StitchFix is a styling service. You set up your profile on-line and you can set it up to receive a "fix" monthly, or like me ... whenever the mood strikes. For each fix, I pay a $20 styling fee and I receive 5 items to try on at home. I can keep or return whatever I want and shipping is free both ways. If I keep everything, it's a 25% discount off the total. And, yes, the styling fee is applied towards what I keep. The more fixes I've done, the better my results. I left a note for my stylist that I was going to Cirque du Soleil and wanted something cool to wear, in addition to more color in my closet.

Jocelyn hit a home run!!!

Jocelyn wrote me a very nice note. She took notice that I had asked for some color since I have a pretty black and white and grey wardrobe. It also seems as if she took into account feedback from previous fixes. And, she gave me two options for Cirque du Soleil.

The first of the two options was a more classic look. I love this dress. Often this style of dress has a very straight skirt and I'm hippy, so it hugs the hips in all the wrong places. This dress is fitted at the top and has a little A-line to skirt. Not a flare, but enough to give a little flounce and avoid the wrong curves. It's lightweight and has a bit of stretch. When I don't have to wear a uniform, this will be great to wear to work.

The second Cirque du Soleil Option had more color. I've noticed that Skies are Blue that I've received before has similar soft stretchy fabrics. I know you can't tell from the picture on the hangar, but this also has a very nice drape and a lot of color. The knotted waistline really cinches the waist. I love wrap looks and even though it isn't a wrap, it give a similar structure. This was my plan for Cirque du Soleil. But, I ran a half marathon the day before and my feet were too puffy for the shoes I had packed. So, sadly, this wasn't worn and I went to the show in jeans and a sweater. But, I will get good use out of this dress. Also, I have to point out, neither dress was too short. A lot of dresses lately seem to be thigh length and I'm to "mature" for minis. So, I was quite happy to have 2 dresses that hit just above the knee. I don't have to wear tights and pretend they are tunics.



What a great blouse. Goes well with my existing wardrobe, but adds a hint of color. It  has a nice little A-line to it and I would be comfortable wearing this with jeans, a skirt, or as a blouse under a suit or blazer.


I would normally eschew a dolman sleeve. I've thought they look a bit ... well ... matronly. But, I really like this one when it's on. It's better on a person than a hanger. It has a really nice easy fit and bunches at the hip. The color didn't come out well in the picture, but it's a soft light mossy sagey green. The fabric feels really soft and silky and I will get so much use out of this during the spring. I love the solid color that will go well with a scarves or necklaces ... long or chunky.



And finally, what is probably my favorite item in the fix, but the least expected. I don't really wear bracelets a lot. I'm still learning about accessories and it's a big deal for me to change earrings or necklaces. But, I really love this cuff. It's absolutely beautiful. I did wear it to Cirque du Soleil and I bet I wear it a lot. It hasn't made it to the jewelry cabinet yet. It's all individual "wires" that are connected.

So, I kept everything and paid $183.50 (in addition to the styling fee) and that included the 25% discount for keeping everything ... again. I was so happy with this fix that I ordered my next one already. It arrives 2 days before my birthday and before I go to my high-school reunion. I hope Jocelyn does my next fix and requested her on my comments.

StitchFix ... past fixes

A few weeks ago, I did my first post of my  StitchFix for the month. I've been receiving fixes for a few years now, but I don't get them every month. And, I've been a little lazy about posting reviews. And, when I was behind, I figured there wasn't an easy way to catch up. In fact, StitchFix is probably the first "subscription" I found. A friend of mine posted her first fix on Facebook and I really wanted to give it a try. I was on a waiting list, but now I think there isn't a waitlist anymore. They carry sizes 0-14. I have to post now, because this is my way of keeping track of what they have sent me, and to keep track of the suggestions they make for styling. 

So ... what is StitchFix? It's a great service for people like me. I have no fashion sense. I wear a uniform to work, so I don't have to figure anything out. If I'm not in a uniform, I'm in scrubs. Comfort is important. I have lots and lots of jeans and t-shirts. Even then, I get lost trying to figure out  how to put things together. And, I get really confused in a store. With no fashion sense, I get really confused shopping. It's just overwhelming. How do I know if it looks good? There are so many colors and styles to choose from? If I have a hard time choosing I do one of two things. Buy everything and then have no idea what to do with it, or get frustrated and leave empty handed. Also, fortunately for me, they include a styling card to help with ideas on how to put together your items into outfits. I need that because I am usually jeans, top, shoes ... and that's it. Also, I get a note from my stylist telling me why she picked out these things for me. I like the personal touch.

StitchFix works with a handful of stylists who pick things for me. Once you sign up on-line, you fill out a style profile. It has lots of information including coloring and sizing, but also your personal style and preferences, and even what you consider a reasonable price to pay for certain types of clothing items. You pay a $20 styling fee and your stylist selects 5 items to send you. You pick your delivery date and voila ... you have a package delivered and you go shopping. After trying everything on, you select what you want to keep and send back the rest in a provided envelope. Shipping is free both ways. Then, go back on-line and check-out. I try to give feedback about what I liked, or didn't, about items in the fix and the way they fit. This information is used to further tweak your next fix. You can do a monthly auto-delivery, or just schedule when you want. If  you keep all 5 items, you get a 25% discount off the entire order. And, of course, the $20 fee is also applied to your order. 

So .... if you're wondering, here is a long list of things you might find in a fix...at least the items I kept. I haven't kept everything. Some fixes are total hits and others .... well, not so much. I keep one thing out of the box to make my styling fee count. And, if I like four things, I'll keep the fifth because it's often less expensive to keep everything with the 25% discount than to return one item and pay full price for 4. 

I was skeptical at first. It seemed boxy and the colors aren't what I'm used to. But, isn't that what I wanted? To get out of my boring style (or lack of) comfort zone. I actually really like this on. Not boxy. Adds a pop of color. 

One of my favorite items. I love asymmetric cuts. It's better zipped all the way up. I wear it a lot.






Another item I wear frequently. It's thin and light. Provides extra coverage of shoulders in summer without weight and warmth. But, just enough warmth if I go into a cold movie theater.

Business in front, party in the back. I like that it looks different coming and going. The sweater is very soft. The back is nylon. I like mixed materials. 

At first, I wasn't so sure. Not a color I would have picked. It looks much better on. This is an example of my lack of style. Items like this, I sometimes really don't like, but I get complements every time I wear it. So, what do I know? I keep wearing, and getting compliments, even though it doesn't speak to me as much as I would like.

Nice basic black blouse, right? I am a big fan of the ruched cross front look. Not so basic, though. VavaVOOM!!! I have to wear a tank under it because the cleavage is all out there. It is soft and is quite figure flattering.





This is a nice basic black tank. I like the touch of lace trim.











OK ... how many favorites do I have? I love this tank. I love the patterns and shape. It comes in narrow on the shoulders.
















And, this one. Also really pretty and really VAVAVOOM!!!! I always wear a tank under it.

This sweater has been a little iffy for me.  I haven't been a fan of sheer and this does need soemthing under it. It's also not super flexible. But, it is actually really pretty and makes a great date-night top.






This top is nice can basic. I like mixed materials and this makes a great easy outfit. The front fabric isn't very stretchy, though and sometimes feels a little restricted when I'm wanting a little more room.

At first, I wasn't so sure about another sheer top and horizontal stripes. But, it works and I actually wear this frequently with a tank.

You're probably wondering ... all tops? Well, I have received some pants, too. I LOVE these cropped cargos. I wear them constantly in the spring and summer and fall. The fabric has an almost sueded feel to it. So comfortable.




Another pair of great jeans. Super comfortable and they really look nice. The Musician comments on my butt (in a good way) when I wear these. I was sent the same jeans twice so I returned them the second time. I have so many jeans already and I'm trying to venture out.

And, yet another favorite, frequently worn sweater. This is very loose knit and cropped. I wear it with long or short-sleeved long T-s with lots of color for a layered look. It's surprisingly warm, though. So ... even though it looks light, it's not great for hot summer nights.




This T-Shirt dress fits snug and curvy. The ruching keeps it from looking too much like a bar dress, though. I wasn't so sure about it at first, but the Musician likes it so I kept it and I wear it, so I guess it was a win.



This is one of my favorite fix items. As you know, I love asymmetric shapes. I also like hoodies. What I really love that makes this jacket so unique is the way it has a wrap look in the BACK!!! It's unexpected.

This batwing dress was one of the items I kept because it was less expensive to keep than return. I love the colors, but batwing isn't really my thing and I've never been good with belted dresses. The Musician thinks it's cute and I do have that fashion issue ... I don't like it, but it's stylish. (I don't think that the universe is playing a trick on me because the compliments come with different people. It's not like someone tells me it looks good so they can make fun of me wearing not so great things.) Anyway, I always wear this with a sweater on the top and it looks good.

Again, I like mixed prints. I have tried to stay away from horizontal stripes, but the way these are patterned, it doesn't do what stripes often do to me. Make me look wide and boxy. Anyway, I wear this a lot in the summer. It has a nice flow to it.



And ... Here are the accessories from the fixes that I've kept. I wear the silver drop and gold earrings A LOT. I love the long layered, multi-chain necklace and the red-gold rope. I was iffy about the leather and gold choker and kept it as item #5, but actually really like it. I love scarves, so it was a no-brainer. I'm still undecided about the gold knot earrings. They were an item #5, but I haven't worn them. They just seem a bit matronly to me.

 Wheh!!! That's it. I am caught up on StitchFix. I can always come back here now and reference my styling cards when I am at a loss about how to wear something.
